Hitting the Road in 2022

After a couple years staying close to home, we're excited to hit the road again for some key industry events later this year.

Like most of you, we’ve spent the past couple of years staying close to home. Any events we’ve attended have been either virtual or local. While the situation taught us just how much can be accomplished remotely, and that perhaps we over-traveled in the past, it also increased our appreciation for the connections and conversations that can only be had through face-to-face encounters.

So we’re pretty excited that we’ll be hitting the road again soon to network, learn and share with our peers. We’re currently slated to attend three key industry events starting in September.

BIM Coordinators Summit 2022

First up is the BIM Coordinators Summit 2022, taking place September 8th in Dublin, Ireland. Launched in 2021 as a virtual event that drew thousands of attendees from around the world, this year’s summit will be both in-person and online and promises to attract an even larger global audience.

I’ll be speaking at the Summit as part of a panel on “The State of BIM (Present & Future)”. I’ll share some perspectives on the present state of BIM that draw on data from the Reality Check Survey we launched last year, as well as from my own observations leading Kinship.

Autodesk University 2022

After two years as a virtual event, Autodesk University is back in its proper physical form. In a refreshing change of pace, AU is being held in New Orleans this year instead of the usual Las Vegas. It’s also been moved forward to September 27-29, eschewing the usual late November time frame and leaving more space in the calendar for follow up before the inevitable holiday madness.

Jose Fandos, our founder and head of product, will be co-presenting alongside Michael Bartyzel, Global BIM Lead for Buro Happold, on “Revit & BIM 360 Data Mining for Project Health Insights”. This is an updated version of a very popular presentation that Michael and Jose gave several years ago. They will look at how Buro Happold uses Kinship and other tools to automatically collect, share and analyze the constant stream of project information generated by a global firm working in BIM.

I’ll also be attending the conference, where we hope to organize a special event for the many customers and friends of Kinship who we haven’t had the chance to see in recent years.

BiLT Europe 2022

It has been years since we had the pleasure of attending a BiLT conference. One of the beauties of BiLT is that it’s a global series of events taking place in different regions of the world throughout the year – Australia & New Zealand, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Personally I’ve been hoping to make it to a BiLT ANZ or BiLT Asia since moving to Hong Kong, only to be frustrated by the pandemic over the last few years.

This year’s BiLT Europe is being held in Jose’s hometown of Valencia, Spain, so of course he had to go. Originally slated to take place this month, it’s now been rescheduled for November 14-16 to help ensure a minimum of pandemic travel restrictions. While we won’t be speaking, we are excited to see several of our customers with presentations on the agenda, including BIG, Heatherwick Studio and Hoare Lea. Jose is also looking forward to playing the role of unofficial local guide for anyone who wants to get to know Valencia better.
