What's New – September 2025

While we finish cooking up a few mouth-watering features coming soon, we wanted to share a selection of smaller – yet still very tasty – enhancements from recent months.

Tracking of Non-Central ModelsEnterprise

That’s right! You can now track non-central (local) Revit models in Kinship too!

This makes Kinship much more usable for a whole range of firms – smaller ones, ones that do a lot of small and/or fast projects, really any company where there are projects involving one or maybe two people at most.

It also makes it more useful in plenty of situations often faced even by firms that only do workshared projects. Project managers or BIM coordinators can use it to help with preparing model files for the team or checking consultant models, BIM managers can use it for easily keeping container files in sync with Kinship (either hidden from the team or not).

Just like with central models, you add local models directly from Revit using the Model Sync Status button, or administrators can create rules to control which local models will be added or ignored. Updates for local models get synced to Kinship after each save in Revit.

This is an Enterprise-only feature, and administrators need to first enable the option in the Model Tracking section in your team Settings.

Load multiple types from Revit

When loading content from the Kinship add-in, previously you could only choose between loading individual types or loading an entire family. Now you can select and load any subset of types as well.

You use the same keyboard+mouse combos for this that you would in Windows and many other common applications. Use Ctrl+Click to select multiple types or Shift+Click to select a range of types. Then press ENTER to load your selected types.

Load individual types from the web

When loading content from the Kinship web app, previously you could only load an entire family or families. Now you can also load individual family types straight from the web app into Revit.

Simply click on a type thumbnail to load it, either on the Types section of a family page or from the full Types page. The type will open in the corresponding Revit version or your active project (as long as it’s compatible with the type’s Revit version).

Enhanced Search Context

Now when you call the Kinship search in Revit with an element already selected in your model, Kinship immediately displays the full details for that item.

You check all the content’s parameter information at a glance — or click “View in Kinship” to open the item’s full page in the Kinship web app.

Details of a selected item now display when calling up the Kinship search.

Option to turn off Personal Collections

Personal Collections allow team members to create collections of content that are only visible to themselves and other team members they choose to share with. So if someone needs or insists on having their own personal stash of content, at least they can keep it in Kinship where it’s much easier to get to and it can be shared when needed (or even converted to a Team Collection).

While it’s been a seldom used feature, understandably some teams don’t want to do anything that could encourage their users to create personal stashes of content. So for administrators who want to enforce stricter control over which content a team member can get to using Kinship, now you have the option to turn this feature off and hide personal collections from all team members.

Enhanced privacy controls for team information

Administrators can now limit the visibility of Team pages and user information to Administrators only. Previously the Team section was visible to all team members. To enhance privacy and security, teams now have the choice of deciding whether their non-administrators can see this information.

You can find the option for controlling Team Pages visibility on the Settings page of the web app under Privacy & Security.

Export CSVs for model and project content

Just like you’ve been able to do in your library and collections, you can now export CSVs of content information from model and project pages. When exporting from a model’s or project’s Families page, you also have the option to export either family-level information or type-level information.

And that’s a wrap! We hope you’ve enjoyed this mix of enhancements for both users and administrators. If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to write us at support@kinship.io.
